Take a look at our equine therapy ponies playing in the field
The Enterprise Centre is a specialist Alternative Education that benefits from it’s unique outdoor education and environment, which is situated in the heart of the Kirklees Valley Nature Reserve. The staff at The Enterprise Centre are fully qualified teachers and we specialise in equine assisted learning, learning with horses and equine therapy for young people who are struggling in mainstream school, SEND, SEMH and any other mental health issues.
We work with both primary and secondary schools in the area providing 1 to 1 or 1 to 3 tailored learning programmes. We also provide facilitated small group sessions. We specialise in working with SEND and SEMH young people aged 9+ using our equine assisted learning and we have great results when learning with horses.
Equine therapy, also known as equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a method that includes equine activities or an equine environment to promote physical, occupational, and emotional growth in persons with mental or behaviour imbalances.
Since horses have similar behaviours to humans, such as social and responsive behaviours, it is easy for individuals to create a connection with the horse. This results in allowing individuals to grow by establishing trust, communicating effectively, managing emotional responses, setting and maintaining safe and appropriate behaviour patterns, developing leadership skills and growing confidence.

Testimonials
The Enterprise Centre have given the children such an amazing opportunity. The enthusiasm, the knowledge and understanding but most importantly the smiles they came back with week in week out is a HUGE testament to the staff and animals at the centre. Thank you all for letting our children be part of this wonderful experience.
Once I started at TEC, I instantly fell in love with everything it had to offer. The beautiful environment put my mind at ease and became something to look forward to. I have achieved many qualifications through UK Rural Skills, including: Basic horse care, project planning, animal nursing and much more. I am now working towards getting an apprenticeship here and I’m so excited to help others as much as the people here helped me.
After my class attended the Enterprise Centre, it was wonderful to see how much the children all grew in confidence and independence. They built on their social communication skills and team working skills. The enjoyment the children got from these sessions was evident from their weekly excitement. It was a wonderful experience for the children and something I would definitely recommend for the future and other schools.
I have attended Equine Therapy at the Enterprise Centre now for 2 terms with a group of 4 girls. We are an SEMH school (Social Emotional Mental Health). All our pupils really struggle with social and emotional difficulties, and this has really helped them grow with confidence. The difference over the weeks has been amazing, our students have shone every week, and it’s been a pleasure to watch them work with the horses. Ali and Dannielle are amazing and really understand the needs of our students and have offered support and guidance at the highest level. We continue to work with the Enterprise Centre, it is a fabulous well-run project. We cannot thank you enough!
Bill started at The Enterprise Centre when he was 14 for 1 day a week, Ali and Dannie were so welcoming allowing Bill to settle on his own terms whilst building new relationships. His confidence has soared since attending The Enterprise Centre where he was also tutored for his GCSE English Language exam. Bill successfully passed his Oxford and Cambridge English Language paper with a grade 6! Bill has also managed to attain lots of extra certificates in animal care through UKRS and had access to lots of different experiences. We can’t thank Ali and Dannie enough, the transformation in Bill in those 2 years has been amazing.
